What does webpage ranking mean?

What does webpage ranking mean? To make it simple some things are ranked as privates and some are Generals and we ONLY make one company a five star General in a specific business segment. After exhaustive research and testing we determined what it takes to “be found” on the web.

Most everyone knows that being on page two of a search makes you nearly invisible because no one wants to keep looking unless there just isn’t a solution on page one. The search engine providers like Google, Yahoo,  Bing and others are pretty good at making the best solutions appear on the first page. Of course there are exceptions where there are so many great results that everyone simply cannot appear on the first page.

Now here is the frightening part, we are creatures of habit and we will click at the top and that’s where it stops. Sponsored ads at the top and side don’t do as well as the generic listings which are just below the sponsored ads. In fact, an article (link below) by Michelle Crossley points out that the generic ad below the sponsored ads are five times more likely to be clicked!

But how do you get there? What will it take to get to the spot that brings you the highest results? And then there are the changes that are made in the search criteria by the search engines to make it more fair or harder to stay at the top…”it’s a jungle out there!”

We all know that there are many large organizations that have professionals in house and their only job is maintaining the website and trying to achieve the "Holy Grail" of first place web ranking. They still cannot do it. There are SEO (search engine optimization) companies that will help you move up but their business model is to move you up…no guarantees.
